Rising Above - IFPC Mass Timber Competition
This competition required us to design libraries utilizing the unique properties and aesthetic of cross-laminated timber and glulam beams. Our site was located within Spokane, in the neighborhood of Browns Addition. My project titled “Rising Above” sought to become a symbol of growth within a lower income community in Spokane, providing opportunities for visitors to study, learn, and live, becoming a third place. The space revolves around a central atrium greenhouse spanning through both floors and breaking the single ceiling plane. This creates a unified space while providing opportunity for different experiences for the user. Programs including a computer lab, makers space, community outreach office, and a book exchange for children.
